The 12th Annual Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Education will feature Guy Doud, 1986 National Teacher of the Year. The event will take place on October 5 at the Sioux City Convention Center. The Bishop’s Dinner supports more than 6,000 students who attend Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Sioux City.
As a high school language arts teacher in Minnesota, Guy Doud received the highest award that the education profession offers: He was chosen from more than two and one-half million teachers as the 1986 National Teacher of the Year for the United Stated of America, and was honored at a ceremony at the White House by then President Ronald Reagan.
Doud has addressed hundreds of groups since being chosen America’s Teacher of the Year. In 1989 he was a main platform speaker for the Million Dollar Roundtable and was rated as one of the top speakers of all time at that event. He has addressed the national convention of the Rural Electric Association, the National School Board Association, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Doud’s message deals with those things that are basic about life, love, family, relationships, success and dreaming dreams. His message has a universal appeal to all audiences because he speaks about things of the heart. Doud has also published five award-winning books, including the best seller, “Molder of Dreams”, along with the videos “Teacher of the Year” and "Classroom of the Heart.”
Bishop R. Walker Nickless says Guy Doud will be a thrilling speaker. “To have a celebrated award-winning educator like Mr. Doud who has motivated so many and inspirited students, parents and teachers will be a privilege and a great treat for our Diocese,” says Bishop Nickless.
Tickets are $125 per person with $85 of each ticket going to Catholic schools within the Sioux City Diocese. Last year, over $100,000 was distributed to Catholic schools because of the success of the Bishop’s Dinner. Tickets go on sale mid-August.
