Calvary Cemetery of Sioux City, Iowa is our city's only Catholic cemetery. We provide reverent and respectful care for our deceased loved ones; it enables us to assist both the living and dead.

Calvary Cemetery is located at 28th and Casselman
(see detailed directions below) in Sioux City. It is open daily from 8:30 until sunset. Land for Calvary Cemetery was purchased in 1870 by Father Thomas Gunn, while Sioux City was under administration of Bishop Hennessy of the Diocese of Dubuque. Father Gunn went from door to door to collect enough money for the first payment on the land. The cemetery was incorporated on August 16, 1913.

The first Mausoleum was built in the early 1900's. The Mausoleum of the Resurrection was completed in 1994. It is open by appointment.

Sioux City's first settler, Joseph Lonais (also spelled Lyonais and Leonnais) is buried in Calvary Cemetery. His tombstone indicates that he was a fur trapper and Rocky Mountain scout.

Angel statues guard the children's section of Calvary Cemetary, known as Marian, with areas for babies up to 2 years and children 2-16 years. The angels were once on the alter at the Cathedral of the Epiphany.
