OUR MISSION
The mission of Serra is to encourage and support vocations to the priesthood and religious life in the Sioux City Diocese. The St. Serra of Siouxland (Sioux City) works with Bishop Nickless and Father Travis Crotty our director of vocations to promote and encourage consecrated vocations through prayer and activities.
- Pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life.
- Pray for those who served in the past and those presently serving.
- Encourage Eucharistic adoration.
- Assist at priestly and diaconate ordinations of the diocese.
- Send ordination anniversary cards to each priest and deacon.
- Host the sisters at a Sioux City Explorers baseball game.
- Deliver a “Mardi Gras” meal to the Carmelite Nuns.
- Host a Christmas brunch for the seminarians.
- Be of assistance to the Vocations Office, may include mailings or deliveries.
- Collaborate with diocesan-wide Knights of Columbus clubs through a local KC club in sending gifts to the seminarians during the week of their finals in spring and fall, and additional opportunities.
- Send birthday cards to seminarians, deacons, and women in formation.
- Send Christmas cards to all diocesan priests, men in the deacon formation, women religious, and parents of seminarians.

AWARENESS
Serrans coordinate events and programs that raise community awareness of the gifts of religious life.
AFFIRMATION
In ways big and small, Serrans affirm the lives and works of those who have already answered the call to religious life.
INVITATION
Serrans are not afraid to ask: “Have you ever considered a calling to the religious life?”
PRAYER
St. Pope John Paul II said “Prayer moves the heart of God.” The foundation of all Serran efforts is prayer for vocations.
